Dr. Francis Spain, Idaho WWAMI entering class of 1972, received the Idaho WWAMI Alumni Award for Excellence in Mentoring, Teaching, Leadership, and Patient Care.

Dr. Spain and his wife Michelle attended the Idaho WWAMI 40th Anniversary celebration at the Boise Centre in Idaho on February 27, 2012. Some of the other attendees included: former Governor Andrus, Lt. Governor Brad Little, Idaho Legislators, Representatives from University of Washington School of Medicine, Idaho higher education, Idaho medical community, WWAMI alumni/ current medical students, and community members.
