National UV Safety Month

July is national UV safety month. This is a great time to remind everyone to protect themselves from the sun while outside. UV radiation is the main cause of skin cancer and can also cause damages to the eyes. In the United States, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer with more than 4 million new cases every year. While it is fun to play in the sun, be sure to follow some of the tips below to keep your family safe whiles doing so.

  • Before going outdoors, apply sunscreen to all exposed skin. Be sure to reapply after swimming
  • Apply sunscreen about every 2 hours of being in the sun
  • Wear protective clothing like long sleeves and hats
  • Limit time spent in direct sun
  • The sun is usually the most intense from the hours of 10 A.M to 4 P.M
